About the position

The Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) position involves providing comprehensive counseling services to individuals, couples, groups, and during crisis situations. The counselor will work under the general supervision of the Clinical Director, ensuring that all clinical records are maintained accurately and in compliance with the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) licensing regulations. The LPC is responsible for timely communication with the Clinical Director regarding any relevant clinical or liability issues and will be expected to make recommendations for procedural changes as necessary. In this role, the LPC will coordinate all counseling services for clients, ensuring that they receive the appropriate support and resources. The counselor must adhere to the ethical standards of the counseling profession and comply with the laws, policies, and procedures established by Winchester Community Mental Health Center, Inc. This position requires a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of care and professionalism in all interactions with clients and colleagues. The LPC will also engage in outreach activities, including workshops and lectures, to promote mental health awareness and provide education to the community. Additionally, the counselor will supervise practicum students and provide post-degree supervision to staff counselors as assigned by the Director. Collecting demographic data to maintain statistics on center usage is also a key responsibility, along with acting as a liaison between clients and community resources as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provides individual, couples, group, and crisis counseling relative to personal and social problems.
  • Provides outreach workshops and lectures.
  • Maintains up-to-date files on clients.
  • Supervises practicum students as appropriate to level of training.
  • Provides license-qualifying post-degree supervision to Staff Counselors as assigned by Director.
  • Consults with faculty and staff concerning student needs.
  • Collects demographic data to maintain statistics on center usage.
  • Acts as liaison between client and community resources as needed.
  • Responsible for establishing job standards for subordinate staff and effectively evaluating staff under charge.

Requirements

  • License eligible in Virginia as a Licensed Professional Counselor or currently licensed in Virginia as a Licensed Professional Counselor.
  • Knowledge of modern counseling practices and methods and adherence to existing professional ethical standards.
  • Ability to form and maintain effective counseling relationships with clients.
  • Ability to monitor client movement in the therapy process and terminate the relationship appropriately.
  • Ability to plan, implement, evaluate, and report activities.
  • Ability to supervise employees and provide direct training when needed.
