About the position

The LPN for Special Education Student position involves providing one-on-one nursing care to a special needs student in a school setting. The role requires performing various nursing duties under the direction of the RN school nurse, ensuring the student's health and safety, and promoting their independence and integration within the school environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform nursing duties as directed by the RN school nurse, including G-Tube feeds, dressing changes, and toileting duties.
  • Attend and participate in required training programs, staff meetings, and online training.
  • Implement student de-escalation and restraining techniques as necessary.
  • Treat all children with dignity and respect.
  • Promote independence and integration of the assigned child.
  • Display ethical and professional behavior in interactions with students, parents, and staff.
  • Maintain punctuality and full attendance regularly.
  • Understand and abide by all safety provisions.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Report and record daily observations, including discipline and accidents.
  • Communicate relevant information to appropriate personnel.
  • Serve as a role model for students and staff by demonstrating positive attitudes and work ethic.
  • Supervise students and assist in maintaining a safe environment.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in special needs programs, particularly with autism and moderate disabilities.
  • CPR Certified or ability to obtain a valid first aid CPR certificate.
  • Experience working with students having special needs, specifically Autism (preferred).
  • Understanding of 51A and 504/IEP regulations.
  • Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis, Activities of Daily Living, and Behavior Management.
  • Experience with Discreet Trial Teaching and data collection.
  • Must hold a current active LPN License and have experience with G-Tube Feeding.
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience preferred.
  • Associate degree preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Applied Behavior Analysis techniques.
  • Familiarity with augmentative communication methods.
