About the position

The LPN II position at Children's National is a full-time role focused on providing nursing care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, Physician, or Advanced Practice Nurse. The role emphasizes the importance of community health and well-being, requiring the LPN to perform various clinical tasks, assist in patient care, and engage with families to ensure a supportive environment for children. The LPN II will also be responsible for documenting care and collaborating with healthcare teams to enhance patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, Physician, or Advanced Practice Nurse.
  • Conduct patient histories and establish normal baseline routines for children during admissions or clinic visits.
  • Accurately measure and document vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, height, and weight.
  • Recognize and respond to physical and behavioral changes in patients, performing basic nursing care as needed.
  • Assist in therapeutic interventions such as tube care, IV starts, and skin care procedures.
  • Collect and test specimens, and prepare for the setup of monitors as directed by a Registered Nurse.
  • Follow infection control protocols and organizational emergency plans.
  • Document observations, interventions, and patient responses accurately and timely.
  • Teach families how to administer routine medications and provide education throughout the patient's visit.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and complete mandatory education requirements.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Completion of a 1-year vocational/technical training program in a related field.
  • 1 year of related work experience.
  • Licensed Practical Nurse certification upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS) certification upon hire.
  • Ability to perform technical functions and communicate effectively with children and families.
  • Competence in obtaining accurate vital signs and documenting patient care.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in pediatric nursing or working with children.
  • Knowledge of community health resources and services.
