About the position

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) position at MDC involves providing direct nursing care to patients across various age groups, including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. The role requires adherence to hospital policies and procedures while collaborating with the healthcare team to implement individualized care plans. The LPN will assist with medical procedures, ensure patient safety, and maintain a therapeutic environment for patients and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe direct care to an assigned group of patients as required.
  • Work within Hospitals, Nursing division and departmental policies.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to implement and document individualized care plans, including discharge planning and patient/family teaching.
  • Assist with special tests and procedures, ensuring proper consent has been obtained.
  • Assist with or institute emergency measures for sudden, adverse developments in patients.
  • Participate in orientation and evaluation of new personnel.
  • Ensure that patient medical records contain necessary information.
  • Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with Hospital standards.
  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings, and workshops.
  • Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes.
  • Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk.
  • Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors, and/or near misses in a timely manner.
  • Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may 'not seem right'.
  • Clean patient care rooms, equipment, and instruments; report equipment problems; order and store supplies; maintain appropriate PAR levels.
  • Assist nursing staff/physicians in complicated treatment procedures; perform routine treatment procedures.
  • Identify and assess clinical situations beyond their scope and promptly notify a nurse and/or physician.
  • Provide oxygen therapy, I.V. setup, catheterization, apply cardiac monitor and other duties as assigned under the supervision of RN or attending physician as requested.
  • Administer medications and monitor results, excluding IV medications, via the Seven Rights and document and communicate clinical findings.

Requirements

  • Graduated from an accredited LPN program.
  • Completion of Organization IV Education & Training Program.
  • CPR for Healthcare/BLS Provider or Professional Rescuers within 30 days of hire.
  • Licensed Practical Nurse in NM or reciprocal agreement.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo.
