About the position

The LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) position in the Nephrology department at OU Health involves providing preventative and health care to patients under general supervision. The role includes assisting with nursing assessments, monitoring patient conditions, and administering various types of care and medications. This part-time position offers flexibility with day and night shifts available, catering to the needs of the healthcare facility and its patients.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with nursing assessments through data collection and observation.
  • Obtain vital signs on assigned patients or clients.
  • Provide care according to an established nursing plan.
  • Observe changes in patient's condition and notify supervisory personnel of significant changes.
  • Provide routine ostomy care and nasogastric tube placement and feeding.
  • Initiate and monitor oxygen therapy according to physician orders or unit protocol.
  • Suction and clean tracheotomy sites.
  • Administer various types of medications as prescribed.
  • Prepare patients for routine physical examinations and assist the physician during examinations.
  • Function in the role of Surgical Tech if the position is open in the operating room.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Completion of educational requirements for NCLEX-PN examination.
  • Current LPN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing or a current multistate compact LPN License (eNLC).
  • Current Basic Life Support certification issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire.
  • Knowledge of professional nursing theories, practices, techniques, and procedures.
  • Ability to organize, coordinate, plan, and evaluate nursing needs of assigned patients.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • One or more years of experience preferred.
  • Knowledge about operating room techniques if applying for a surgery position.
