About the position
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) position at Geisinger focuses on providing clinical support in the Hematology/Oncology department. The role involves assisting providers in diagnosing and treating patients, ensuring continuity of care, and maintaining a clean and safe clinical environment. LPNs will work in an outpatient setting, primarily in the infusion room, administering treatments and injections while promoting a high standard of patient care.
Responsibilities
- Provides primary clinical support to the provider, patient, and their family to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of the patient's condition.
- Follows up on diagnostic testing to ensure completion, accuracy, and filing in the medical record.
- Obtains and documents patient medical history, chief complaint, vital signs, and prepares patients for examinations.
- Provides direct clinical care as directed by the provider.
- Assists the provider in performing minor surgical diagnostic procedures and ancillary diagnostic examinations.
- Collects and prepares laboratory specimens and completes associated paperwork.
- Executes and documents ongoing patient communication, prioritizing communication to the provider.
- Administers medications and vaccines under the direction of a provider and per scope of practice.
- Cleans and sets up examination and treatment rooms between cases, ensuring required levels of asepsis and availability of appropriate instruments.
Requirements
- Graduate from Specialty Training Program-Nursing (Required)
- Minimum of 1 year of Nursing experience (Preferred)
- Basic Life Support Certification
- Licensed Practical Nurse certification
Nice-to-haves
- Previous Hematology/Oncology experience is preferred
