About the position

The Corrections Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Amergis is responsible for providing general and emergency nursing care to adults and children in custody within a corrections facility. This role involves close interaction with patients, ensuring their health needs are met while adhering to security standards and facility policies.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the nursing process to plan, implement, treat and evaluate the patient/inmate.
  • Integrates and implements referrals of inmates to the staff physician, nurse practitioner, dentist, mental health professional.
  • Looks for signs and symptoms indicating physiologic and psychosocial changes in the patient's condition and reports to RN and/or physician.
  • Collaborates with RN regarding the plan of care according to evaluation, changes in medical plan of care, and effective/ineffective nursing interventions.
  • Documents patient's response to nursing and other interventions.
  • Monitors the safety and effectiveness of the environment and equipment.
  • Participates in infection control activities as directed by Infection Control Coordinator and/or nursing supervisor.
  • Participates in the orientation and continuing education of staff as applicable.
  • Participates in the Health Quality Improvement Program as applicable.
  • Adheres to all facility policy and procedure.
  • Follows security guidelines and protocol on tools/sharps counts and ingress/egress policies at all times.
  • Performs other duties as assigned/necessary.

Requirements

  • Possesses a current Practical Nursing License in the applicable state.
  • Minimum of one year experience in Corrections preferred.
  • Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice.
  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable.
  • Current CPR if applicable.
  • TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable.
  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation).
  • Must meet all federal, state and local requirements.
  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site.
  • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required.
  • Computer proficiency required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
