About the position

The position involves assisting in providing clinical care to office patients under the direct supervision of a clinician, department supervisor, or designee. Responsibilities include managing clinicians' daily schedules, greeting and escorting patients, obtaining vital signs, and inputting clinical information into electronic health records. The role also includes preparing exam rooms, administering routine injections, answering phone calls, and coordinating care when clinicians are unavailable. The candidate will participate in meetings and training to promote continuous improvement and quality patient care, while maintaining patient rights and confidentiality obligations. Additionally, the position requires clerical support, patient assessment, and effective communication with the interprofessional team.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in providing clinical care to office patients under supervision.
  • Manages clinicians' daily schedule and patient flow.
  • Greets and escorts patients to exam rooms.
  • Obtains relevant information and takes vital signs as indicated.
  • Inputs pertinent clinical information into the electronic health record timely and accurately.
  • Assists clinicians with clinical procedures and/or additional tests specific to the department.
  • Prepares and maintains exam rooms for patient arrivals.
  • Administers routine injections when delegated and documents accurately.
  • Ensures timely answering of telephone calls and necessary information is relayed to clinicians.
  • Coordinates care when clinicians are not immediately available.
  • Assists in resolving patient concerns by acting as an advocate.
  • Participates in practice and department meetings and trainings.
  • Maintains patient rights and abides by confidentiality obligations.
  • Provides clerical/office support as necessary.
  • Floats to other MACC practices when required.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
  • Assists with the assessment of patient needs and coordinates care under clinician direction.
  • Verifies and implements clinician's orders for testing and/or procedures.
  • Provides effective patient and family teaching using health promotion methods.
  • Triages walk-in patients per established protocols.
  • Maintains communication and collaboration with the interprofessional team.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
  • Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing program.
  • Currently licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the state of Massachusetts.
  • Basic Life Support Certification for Health Care Providers.
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service, and time management skills.
  • Experience with current office technology and proficient with computer office applications (Electronic Medical/Health Records, MS Office, etc.).
  • A minimum of two years' experience in a clinical setting preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
