About the position

The position of Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Baton Rouge General involves administering nursing care to designated patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse in the Wound & Hyperbaric Center. The LPN will perform a variety of direct and indirect patient care duties tailored to the needs of the age population served, as defined in the department's scope of service. Essential job functions include performing patient care according to established standards, collecting assessment data, maintaining accurate patient records, and assisting with patient and family education. The LPN will also be responsible for administering medications and treatments as prescribed, directing ancillary nursing staff, and recognizing patient care priorities. The role requires a current Louisiana LPN licensure and a commitment to adhering to HIPAA regulations and safety practices.

Responsibilities

  • Administers nursing care to designated patients under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
  • Performs a variety of direct and indirect patient care duties according to the needs of the age population served.
  • Collects data from patients and families for RN evaluation and care plan development.
  • Participates in patient and family education.
  • Safely administers medications as ordered by the physician.
  • Performs treatments as prescribed by the physician.
  • Uses the nursing care plan in daily assignments and modifies it under supervision as needed.
  • Directs and assists ancillary nursing staff with assigned duties.
  • Recognizes patient care priorities and potential patient care crises.
  • Maintains accurate patient records and charts to ensure a complete record of medical treatment.

Requirements

  • Current Louisiana LPN licensure.
  • One year of experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and adherence to safety practices appropriate to the job position.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Familiarity with wound care and hyperbaric treatments.
