About the position

The LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) plays a vital role in assisting healthcare professionals such as Physicians, Registered Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, and Physician Assistants in providing medical treatment and testing. This position involves maintaining exam rooms, ensuring a smooth patient flow, and being an integral part of the patient care team to achieve established goals for individual patients and the clinical service. The LPN is also responsible for reporting safety issues and medical errors to ensure a safe healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

  • Administers immunizations and injections as directed by the physician.
  • Assists in lab procedures under the supervision of the physician and based on training received.
  • Performs laboratory and diagnostic procedures, such as venipunctures and urinalysis.
  • Assists patients as needed or as directed by the nurse or physician.
  • Prepares patients and examination rooms, takes initial medical history, and vital signs.
  • Makes lab and x-ray appointments and explains preparations to patients.
  • Assists with procedures taught through formal training or by a registered nurse or physician.
  • Prepares equipment and aids the physician during treatment and testing of patients.
  • Follows up on patient calls as directed by the physician.
  • Gives instructions to patients regarding medications and treatment as instructed by healthcare providers.
  • Greets patients and escorts them to examination rooms, preparing them for examination.
  • Maintains medical records in accordance with procedures.
  • Keeps examination rooms and treatment areas clean and restocks medical supplies.
  • Observes, records, and reports patients' conditions and reactions to treatments.
  • Orders, prepares, and inspects patient charts and records, posting test results.
  • Checks expiration dates on in-house medications and immunizations periodically.
  • Provides general nursing care to patients.
  • Removes lab reports from the printer and attaches them to charts for physician review.
  • Reports patient complaints and billing concerns to the Practice Manager.
  • Reports equipment problems to the Practice Manager immediately.
  • Screens patients for appropriate information.
  • Shares responsibility for daily office trash removal and general cleanliness.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Licensed Practical Nurse Certification
  • Valid NJ state licensure
  • BLS Certification approved by AHA
  • Relevant experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
