About the position
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) position at the Cardiovascular Institute of the South involves providing essential patient care in support of cardiovascular physicians and medical personnel. The role requires performing a variety of nursing duties, including patient triage, documentation, and assisting with medical procedures, all while ensuring compliance with healthcare standards and maintaining patient confidentiality.
Responsibilities
- Triage patients and assess emergency cases, documenting medication lists, allergies, vital signs, and patient history.
- Assist physicians/providers in patient rooms and complete physician orders, including administering injections and scheduling tests.
- Maintain accurate electronic documentation in the EMR, including patient medication lists and chart notes.
- Respond to phone calls related to pharmacy refills, patient inquiries, and communication with other healthcare providers.
- Perform blood work and assist with Coumadin clinics as needed.
- Explain diagnostic procedures to patients and provide education to patients and families.
- Interrogate pacemakers and assist in the pacemaker clinic.
- Assist in completing various medical forms and insurance pre-certifications.
- Order medical supplies and assist with mandated clinic checks.
- Staff other clinics and departments as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Valid LPN license in the state of Louisiana.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification is optional.
