About the position

The LTE Wildlife Biologist position at the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) in Antigo is responsible for managing the Deer Management Assistance Program's (DMAP) antlerless tag program. This role involves coordinating with private landowners, conducting property assessments, collecting deer impact data, and providing technical support to DMAP members. The position is temporary, anticipated to start in May 2025, and offers flexibility in hours worked per week.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and implement DMAP's antlerless tag program
  • Conduct property assessments for DMAP members requesting antlerless tags
  • Collect accurate and complete data and write property assessment summaries
  • Work with the local DMAP biologist to determine appropriate tag allocations
  • Develop antlerless tag authorization lists for GoWild staff
  • Assign DMAP tag authorizations to qualifying DMAP members
  • Develop custom annual harvest reports for DMAP members
  • Provide quality customer service to DMAP members
  • Assist DMAP members with MyDMAP technical support
  • Respond to customer inquiries in a timely, respectful manner
  • Maintain familiarity with DMAP programs and offerings
  • Assist DMAP biologists with conducting site visits and provide notes following the visit
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest deer and habitat management information

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral formats
  • Skilled in taking and maintaining accurate, complete field data
  • General knowledge of plant and tree identification
  • Experience conducting forest inventory, deer browse, or plant surveys
  • Experience writing technical reports for a general audience
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • General knowledge of wildlife habitat types, deer, and wildlife biology
