About the position

The position involves diagnosing, maintaining, repairing, and servicing a variety of diesel, gasoline, and natural gas-powered equipment and vehicles. The role is primarily scheduled for the second shift and requires adherence to safety practices while performing preventive maintenance to enhance the service life of equipment. The technician will work under the supervision of the Preventive Maintenance Coordinator and is expected to maintain professionalism and efficiency in operations.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, maintain, repair, and service diesel, gasoline, and natural gas-powered equipment and vehicles.
  • Perform all levels of preventive maintenance services.
  • Conduct equipment inspections after completing each job.
  • Maintain a courteous and professional manner with co-workers, customers, and the public.
  • Assist other maintenance department staff to ensure operational efficiency of vehicles and equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery.
  • Record keeping of time and parts used on appropriate forms.
  • Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices.
  • Be trained to operate various makes and models of equipment.
  • Perform DOT inspections on trucks and trailers.

Requirements

  • High school graduate, G.E.D., or equivalent studies/experience (preferred).
  • Vocational/Technical School or certification preferred but not necessary.
  • 2 or more years' experience in diesel truck and heavy equipment preferred but not required.
  • Must own tools and have proficiency in the use of shop tools.
  • Current CDL license with air brake certification preferred but not required.
  • Excellent communication skills and great attention to detail.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with heavy equipment parts familiarization including parts catalogs, filters, and oils.
  • Ability to work day or night shift as needed.
  • Willingness to work weekends and extended hours.
