About the position

The Lunch Clerk at the School of Science & Technology is responsible for effectively operating the Child Nutrition program at the campus, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations while adhering to SST policies and procedures. This role involves managing student lunch accounts, processing eligibility applications, and participating in wellness initiatives to promote healthy eating among students.

Responsibilities

  • Process Student Eligibility applications and complete Verification in accordance with USDA regulations.
  • Monitor student lunch accounts and notify households of negative balances through phone calls, letters, and emails.
  • Review meal service production records daily and report discrepancies to the District and/or Central Office.
  • Operate Point of Service during breakfast, lunch, and snack meal periods, ensuring students select reimbursable meals.
  • Maintain documentation for students requesting Special Dietary Accommodations according to USDA protocol.
  • Operate the After School Snack Program, distributing reimbursable snacks and maintaining documentation if offered.
  • Manage the a la carte program, including ordering products, maintaining inventory, and documentation if offered.
  • Participate in the Local School Wellness Policy, collecting and maintaining documentation, assessing policy goals, and publicizing updates.
  • Record daily meal counts and revenue, reporting discrepancies to the Regional and/or Central Office.
  • Execute all department/district policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
  • Attend required SST trainings and TDA Education Service Center Child Nutrition trainings.
  • Maintain Child Nutrition files.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree
  • Current Food Manager Certification as accepted by the Texas Department of State Health Services (preferred or to be obtained within the first two weeks of employment)
  • Minimum of 1-year of school food service experience (preferred)
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to organize special programs and participate in campus activities
  • Ability to use a computer and Child Nutrition software, database, spreadsheet, and word processing software
  • Ability to analyze data and process accurate information
  • Effective public speaking and problem-solving skills
