About the position

The Lunchroom/Recess Paraprofessional at Crestview Elementary School is responsible for supervising students during lunch and recess periods, ensuring their emotional and physical safety. This part-time position involves implementing behavioral guidelines, fostering positive relationships with students, and maintaining a clean and safe environment. The role requires effective communication and teamwork with staff and students, contributing to a positive school atmosphere.

Responsibilities

• Supervise large groups of students during lunch and recess periods.
• Enforce appropriate behavioral guidelines and consequences for students.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with students to enhance their self-concept.
• Collaborate with kitchen, lunchroom, and building staff to create a respectful working atmosphere.
• Escort students to lunchroom, restrooms, lockers, and nurse's office as necessary.
• Provide on-site conflict resolution and refer incidents to the building principal.
• Wash lunchroom tables and perform general clean-up duties.
• Supervise outside recess activities and ensure safe movement of students.
• Encourage students to engage in appropriate recess activities and recommend activities as necessary.
• Ensure safe use of play equipment and report any maintenance needs to the principal.
• Perform other cafeteria duties as directed by the building principal.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Proven teamwork, confidentiality, and communication skills.
• Ability to establish and enforce behavioral guidelines consistently.
• Experience supervising large groups of children, up to 130.
• Ability to perform routine computer functions, including email and Microsoft Word.
• Ability to lift and carry 10 pounds.
• Prompt, regular, and reliable attendance.

Nice-to-haves

• Trained in and experience utilizing behavioral management techniques.
• Current certification in first aid and CPR.
• Knowledge of behavior characteristics of elementary students.
