About the position

As a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) at Baylor Scott & White Health, you will play a vital role in providing care for medically complex patients in a Long Term Acute Care setting. This full-time position involves evaluating patients, participating in care planning, and ensuring high-quality patient care in accordance with Texas Nursing Practice Act regulations. The role emphasizes teamwork, communication, and the ability to create a supportive and therapeutic environment for patients and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough assessments using clinical reasoning and best practices following the LVN Scope of Practice.
  • Assist the Registered Nurse in creating care plans and setting goals based on assessment findings.
  • Participate in evaluating nursing practice effectiveness and quality by reviewing specific indicators in nursing.
  • Create a caring, safe, healing, supportive, therapeutic environment for patients.
  • Manage pain, promote comfort, and minimize suffering for patients.
  • Facilitate education for patients, families, nurses, and other healthcare team members.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to implement care plans under RN/provider direction.
  • Employ strategies and utilize available resources to solve problems for patients and their families.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • One year of LVN experience required
  • Vocational Nursing Practitioner's License
  • Basic Life Support certification (can be acquired within the first 30 days after joining)
  • Thorough knowledge of nursing and patient care standards and procedures
  • Familiarity with medical terms, health promotion methods, and disease prevention practices
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Superb interpersonal skills to interact with a diverse range of people
  • Ability to think critically and solve problems effectively
  • Basic computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and electronic medical record maintenance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a Long Term Acute Care setting
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations established by certifying bodies affecting nursing care delivery.
