About the position

The LVN position is a contract role focused on providing nursing services, treatments, and diagnostic procedures for inmate care and safety. The role involves interpreting physicians' orders, administering medications, and assisting with various healthcare functions in a correctional setting. The position offers opportunities for diverse job functions, including clinic, inpatient, outpatient, and critical care responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Provides nursing services, treatments, and diagnostic and preventive procedures for inmate care and safety.
• Interprets physicians' orders and administers prescribed medication.
• Assists physicians with sick calls when present.
• Applies surgical dressings and bandages, provides emergency first aid care, and records vital signs.
• Instructs inmates on discharge planning and observes signs and symptoms during sick calls.
• Reports reactions to treatments and changes in inmates' emotional or physical conditions.
• Instructs and supervises correctional staff regarding inmate healthcare needs.
• Consults with supervisor on complex cases, checks and orders supplies, and maintains accurate medical records.
• Provides health care education to inmates.

Requirements

• 1+ years of experience in Med-Surg or LTAC.
• Valid Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license in the State of Texas.
• Valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) certification.
• Graduation from a Licensed Vocational Nurse Program.
• IV Therapy Certification for LVNs.
