About the position

The Medical Assistant (MA) position at ProMedica Physicians Group is designed for individuals who are committed to providing high-quality patient care within a collaborative healthcare environment. The role requires proficiency in navigating various information technology platforms and applications to deliver effective patient care services under supervision. The MA will be responsible for preparing patients for their visits, which includes taking vital signs, documenting information, and entering orders within the EPIC system. Additionally, the MA will coordinate support and ancillary services, prepare patient rooms, and stock exam rooms to ensure a smooth patient experience. In this role, the MA will also engage in clerical support functions, such as answering phone calls, documenting patient interactions, and assisting with various office tasks. A strong emphasis is placed on customer service, as the MA will be expected to triage patient calls and communicate effectively with patients, providers, and colleagues. The position requires adherence to clinical protocols and regulatory requirements to ensure a safe patient experience. The MA will collaborate with leadership and other staff members to recommend improvements in patient care quality, safety, and efficiency. Overall, the MA will play a crucial role in enhancing the patient experience and supporting the healthcare team in delivering exceptional care.

Responsibilities

  • Reports for scheduled shifts on time and in a professional manner with regard to behavior, telephone courtesy, dress, identification, and communication with patients' colleagues, and outside agencies.
  • Works closely with the provider and leadership to continually improve the patient experience through daily patient care, clerical support, ongoing projects, and assumes additional duties as needed in a self-directed manner.
  • Prepares the patient for the visit by taking vital signs, documenting and order entry within the EPIC system, arranging and coordinating support and ancillary services for patient care, preparing patient rooms for visits, stocking exam rooms, preparing schedules, and providing general support to the providers and patients.
  • Provides for a safe patient experience through adherence to clinical protocols, regulatory requirements, manufacturer standards and reports any potential equipment malfunctions or safety violations.
  • May support a variety of clerical office functions including calls, documentation, scanning, etc.
  • Demonstrates clinical knowledge and focuses on customer service to answer and triage patient telephone calls, records complete and accurate messages, and obtains necessary instructions from providers and nurses when appropriate.
  • Supports internal and external customers to maintain a superior customer experience across the continuum of care through teamwork.
  • Communicates professionally with patients, providers, and co-workers at all times and actively participates and is engaged in staff meetings.
  • Collaborates with leadership and other staff to recommend changes to improve the safety, quality, and efficiency of patient care.
  • Performs other duties as assigned that support ProMedica's core values.

Requirements

  • Must be a high school graduate or its equivalent.
  • Able to promote a strong commitment towards achieving outstanding internal and external customer satisfaction and superior patient experience.
  • Able to work independently, prioritize, problem solve and work cooperatively with faculty and staff.
  • BLS (CPR) certification, must present a current BLS course card from the AHA at time of employment or obtain certification within 90 days of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Completion of a recognized MA program at an accredited college or university.
  • 1+ years experience in direct patient care preferred.
  • Applicable medical certification preferred (MA, EMT, STNA, etc…).
