About the position

Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a Machine Learning Data Scientist to join our AI Data and Visualization department. This position is integral to our mission of applying data science, data engineering, computer programming, and artificial intelligence/machine learning (AIML) models to address challenges in nuclear energy and energy security. The successful candidate will engage in research and development activities aimed at conceptualizing and implementing innovative solutions that enhance energy security, nuclear materials, and fuels. The role involves collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, including experts in 3D visualization, cybersecurity, materials science, high-performance computing, physics, and engineering, to drive forward our research objectives. The position operates on a 9x80 schedule, allowing for every other Friday off, and is based at our C3 facility. There may also be opportunities for hybrid work arrangements. As a Machine Learning Data Scientist, you will lead data science research and analysis projects, providing oversight and technical leadership. You will be responsible for extracting meaningful insights from extensive data and metadata sources, interpreting and communicating findings to researchers and program managers. Additionally, you will develop and maintain software solutions to support research efforts, including the development, testing, and deployment of software code across various environments. Your role will also involve the integration of AI/ML solutions with INL's High-Performance Computing resources, requiring you to be a thoughtful leader and effective communicator with senior leaders, sponsors, and team members. You will conduct facilitation sessions to gather requirements and collaborate with mission and research teams to identify pertinent questions and issues for data analysis and experiments. This position reports directly to the Department Manager.
