About the position

ByteDance is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer to join our Applied Machine Learning (AML) team, which serves as the central AI organization for the company. Our mission is to push the next-generation AI infrastructure and recommendation platform for various applications, including ads ranking, search ranking, and live & e-commerce ranking. This role is pivotal in driving substantial impact on the core businesses of ByteDance, including popular products like Douyin (TikTok) and Toutiao. As a Machine Learning Engineer, you will participate in the application and optimization of machine learning algorithms across our products. This includes working on recommendation systems, advertising, multimodal pre-training, and scientific computing, all of which require significant computational resources. You will collaborate closely with engineering teams to explore new algorithms under innovative architectures, contributing to the development of state-of-the-art AI core technologies. Responsibilities

• Participate in the application and optimization of machine learning algorithms in products such as Douyin (TikTok) and Toutiao.
• Work on recommendation systems, advertising, multimodal pre-training, and scientific computing that require significant computational resources.
• Collaborate closely with engineering teams to explore new algorithms under new architectures.

Requirements

• Proficiency in C/C++ programming skills with a solid foundation and excellent programming style.
• Familiarity with at least one mainstream deep learning programming framework (TensorFlow/PyTorch).
• Knowledge of deep learning algorithms (CNN/RNN/LSTM/RL, large-scale Sparse&Dense models for recommendation and advertising).
• Ability to independently solve problems and possess a strong sense of teamwork and excellent communication skills.
• Strong motivation, willingness to accept challenges, and innovative thinking.

Nice-to-haves

• Familiarity with algorithm design in large-scale systems.
• Practical project experience in recommendation systems, advertising, multimodal applications, or scientific computing.
