About the position

The Apple Services Engineering Video Search Engineering team is seeking an experienced engineer to develop next-generation media search capabilities for Apple's devices and platforms. This role focuses on leveraging machine learning and large language models to enhance search functionalities across various Apple services, including Apple TV, Siri, and Spotlight. The position involves analyzing search requirements, developing machine learning models, and integrating search functions into Apple products, all while adhering to Apple's commitment to privacy and innovation.

Responsibilities

• Analyzing search retrieval and relevance requirements, issues, and opportunities.
• Understanding product requirements and translating them into modeling and engineering tasks.
• Developing techniques and building machine learned models for search retrieval and ranking problems.
• Integrating search functions into Apple products, such as TV, Siri, and Spotlight.
• Building end-to-end production systems including retrieval and ranking to power search.
• Conducting A/B tests to objectively measure improvements.
• Utilizing Spark, Hadoop MapReduce, Hive, and Impala for distributed data processing.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in machine learning, deep learning, information retrieval, natural language processing, or data mining.
• Mastery of two of the following languages: Python, Go, Java, C++.
• Excellent knowledge and practical skills in major ML and NLP algorithms.
• Excellent data analytical skills.
• Experience with large scale search and machine learning systems is highly desired.
• Experience with data transformation pipelines and Hadoop, Hive, and/or Impala is a plus.
• Familiarity with A/B experimentation.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Deep understanding of search and information retrieval including indexing, query rewriting, retrieval, and ranking.
• Experience building search or recommender systems using LLMs.
