About the position

The Machine Learning Engineer / Computational Biologist at 1910 Genetics will play a pivotal role in revolutionizing drug discovery through the development of a protein design platform. This position requires a blend of expertise in structural biology, biophysics, and machine learning engineering to enhance the drug development process for previously undruggable targets. The engineer will collaborate closely with the academic Founding Scientist and cross-disciplinary teams to build and launch applications that include protein structure refinement, prediction, and therapeutic design.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the academic Founding Scientist to build and launch the protein design platform.
  • Own all aspects of 1910's protein design platform.
  • Teach cross-disciplinary colleagues how to apply the protein design platform in their structure-based design of small molecule therapeutics.
  • Understand the core scientific principles of structural biology, biochemistry, and biophysics related to the protein design platform.
  • Complete preliminary testing of database structures, scoring functions, and machine learning algorithms for the platform.
  • Productionize the best algorithms on AWS.
  • Launch the beta product of the protein structure refinement module within 6 months.
  • Launch the full protein structure refinement module and the protein structure prediction module within 1 year.

Requirements

  • Exceptional knowledge in structural biology and biophysics.
  • Strong background in machine learning engineering.
  • Experience in computational chemistry and pharmacology.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with drug discovery and development processes.
  • Experience with AWS for productionizing algorithms.
