About the position

The Machine Learning Engineer Graduate position at ByteDance is designed for PhD graduates starting in 2025. The role focuses on advancing machine learning algorithms and platforms, particularly for recommendation systems, ads ranking, and search ranking. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work on innovative projects that impact millions of users globally, while also receiving mentorship and support to kickstart their careers in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Build new features that touch hundreds of millions of people around the world
  • Solve unique, large-scale, highly complex technical problems
  • Build the next-generation monetization platform to help millions of customers grow their businesses
  • Work with your mentor to deliver product features and make engineering improvements
  • Build world-class web applications that combine usability, accessibility, elegance, performance, and maintainability

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a PhD degree in Software Development, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • Proficient in C/C++/Python/Golang, with solid programming skills (e.g. algorithms and data structures)
  • Familiar with deep learning frameworks (TensorFlow/PyTorch)
  • Ability to work independently and complete projects from beginning to end in a timely manner
  • Good communication and teamwork skills to clearly communicate technical concepts with other teammates

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience contributing to an open sourced machine learning framework (TensorFlow/PyTorch)
  • Experience in big data frameworks (e.g., K8s/Spark/Hadoop/Flink)
  • Experience in resource management and task scheduling for large scale distributed systems
  • Experience in building solutions with AWS, GCP, Azure, OCI, AliCloud or other cloud services
  • Strong background in Hardware-Software Co-Design, High-Performance Computing, ML Hardware Acceleration
  • Experience in developing and deploying large-scale systems
