About the position

ByteDance is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer Intern for the Governance and Experience team of e-commerce for the Summer/Fall 2025 internship program. Founded in 2012, ByteDance's mission is to inspire creativity and enrich life through a suite of innovative products, including TikTok, Helo, and Resso. The Governance and Experience team is dedicated to ensuring the safety and trustworthiness of the marketplace for users, sellers, and creators. This role is pivotal in developing algorithms that detect and control risks associated with content, products, sellers, and creators, thereby enhancing user satisfaction and platform integrity. As an intern, you will work collaboratively with a diverse team, including strategy, product management, policy, and operations teams, to define products and drive initiatives from an engineering perspective. This internship is designed to provide students with hands-on experience in a real-world setting, allowing you to apply your academic knowledge while developing essential skills for your future career. The internship will last between 12 to 24 weeks, starting in either May/June or August/September 2025, depending on your availability. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to participate in ByteDance's technical online assessment through HackerRank, and applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, encouraging early submissions.

Responsibilities

• Work with a team to design and implement algorithms to detect and control risks/frauds in contents/products/sellers/creators.
• Collaborate with strategy team, product managers, policy team, and ops team to help define products and drive initiatives from engineering viewpoints.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a BS/MS degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• Background in Software Development, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
• An understanding or keen interest in machine learning, NLP, or computer vision.
• Familiarity with programming languages such as C++, Python, Go, or Java.

Nice-to-haves

• Interest or experience in anti-fraud, anti-spam, platform-integrity, or similar fields.
• A profound sense of responsibility, coupled with exceptional communication and teamwork skills.
