About the position

The Machine Learning Engineer Intern position at ByteDance focuses on enhancing the e-commerce supply chain and logistics through the application of machine learning, operations research, and data mining. Interns will work on developing intelligent systems to improve logistics operations, predict delivery times, and optimize product performance. This role offers hands-on experience in a dynamic environment, contributing to real-world challenges while fostering personal and professional growth.

Responsibilities

  • Develop deep learning and operations research models for the supply chain and logistics of the global E-Commerce business.
  • Utilize e-commerce big data and deep learning models to predict end-to-end estimated time of arrival (ETA) and logistics events to enhance user experience.
  • Build logistics network knowledge graphs and predict the spatio-temporal trajectory sequence of express packages using deep learning and statistical inference.
  • Employ NLP and LLM algorithms for address verification and suggestion.
  • Use time series forecasting techniques for sales predictions at various granularities, including warehouse-level manpower and inventory-level demand forecasting.
  • Participate in the growth of e-commerce merchants/creators by developing growth algorithms and collaborating with operations and product teams.
  • Predict product performance in traffic/conversion through data mining and machine learning, optimizing product operation strategies.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Master's degree in artificial intelligence, computer science, operations research, automation, statistics, mathematics, or related fields.
  • Experience in data mining and deep learning.
  • Familiarity with common machine learning and deep learning algorithms for classification, regression, and clustering, with practical application experience.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or Java, and familiarity with machine learning/deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch.
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Graduating December 2025 onwards with intent to return to degree program after the internship.
  • Demonstrated software engineering experience from previous internships or coding competitions.
  • Internship or research experience in e-commerce, supply chain, logistics, or transportation.
  • Published papers at conferences related to data mining or machine learning.
