About the position

As a Machine Learning Engineer within the Monetization Engineering team at Pinterest, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our machine learning technology stack, particularly within the Ads domain. Your primary responsibility will be to develop and execute a vision that enhances the personalization of Pinterest for our users. This involves leveraging cutting-edge technology and the latest advancements in deep learning and machine learning to create personalized experiences that resonate with our 500 million users worldwide. In this role, you will collaborate closely with various teams across Pinterest, including those focused on Homefeed, Ads, Growth, Shopping, and Search. Your work will involve experimenting with and improving machine learning models tailored for these diverse product surfaces. You will utilize data-driven methods to enhance candidate retrieval processes, ensuring that our recommendations are not only relevant but also timely. The environment at Pinterest is high-impact, allowing for quick experimentation and product launches, which means you will have the opportunity to see your contributions make a real difference in the user experience. Staying abreast of industry trends in recommendation systems will be crucial, as you will be expected to leverage large language models (LLMs) to enhance content understanding. Responsibilities

  • Build cutting edge technology using the latest advances in deep learning and machine learning to personalize Pinterest.
  • Partner closely with teams across Pinterest to experiment and improve ML models for various product surfaces (Homefeed, Ads, Growth, Shopping, and Search).
  • Use data driven methods and leverage the unique properties of our data to improve candidates retrieval.
  • Work in a high-impact environment with quick experimentation and product launches.
  • Keep up with industry trends in recommendation systems.
  • Leverage LLMs to enhance content understanding.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of industry experience applying machine learning methods (e.g., user modeling, personalization, recommender systems, search, ranking, natural language processing, reinforcement learning, and graph representation learning).
  • Degree in computer science, statistics, or related field.
  • End-to-end hands-on experience with building data processing pipelines, large scale machine learning systems, and big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop/Spark).
  • Practical knowledge of large scale recommender systems, or modern ads ranking, retrieval, targeting, marketplace systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • M.S. or PhD in Machine Learning or related areas.
  • Publications at top ML conferences.
  • Expertise in scalable realtime systems that process stream data.
  • Passion for applied ML and the Pinterest product.
  • Background in computational advertising.

Benefits

  • Base salary range of $122,887 — $253,692 USD, eligible for equity.
