About the position

The Apple News team is looking for a passionate and self-driven Machine Learning Engineer to contribute to the development of scalable services that enhance user experiences. This role involves leveraging machine learning to solve complex problems in the News domain, such as text extraction and personalized content delivery. The engineer will have the opportunity to design and implement advanced machine learning models, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and drive features from concept to delivery, ultimately impacting millions of users.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement state-of-the-art machine learning models that process text and personalize feeds.
• Collect model training data, design model architecture, and train custom or fine-tuned models or adapters suited for application features.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to design and implement end-to-end machine learning enabled features.
• Drive application features from concept, model design, development, and delivery.
• Engage with the machine learning community at Apple.

Requirements

• MS in Machine Learning, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent industry experience.
• At least 2 years of experience shipping machine learning models in products.
• Strong programming skills in Python, Java, or a related language, and experience with deep learning toolkits such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with partner teams.
• Commitment to fostering an open and inclusive work environment.

Nice-to-haves

• Ph.D. in Machine Learning, Computer Science, or related field.
• 5 years of experience shipping machine learning models in products.
• Experience with personalized ranking and scoring.
• Experience with text data and NLP tasks.
• Experience delivering high-quality software at scale.
