About the position

Grammarly is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join its On-Device team. This role focuses on integrating advanced machine learning capabilities into Grammarly's products, enhancing user experience through innovative features and efficient model deployment. The position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic hybrid environment, fostering collaboration and creativity among a talented team of engineers and researchers.

Responsibilities

  • Propose, design, and prototype strategic new features enabled by on-device capabilities.
  • Build machine learning models to address real-world problems and utilize data for quality evaluation and improvement.
  • Own the implementation of models in an on-device context, considering model size, performance, and latency.
  • Collaborate with core product teams to integrate models into user interfaces.
  • Launch and monitor ML model deployments via A/B testing and address issues from user feedback and telemetry.
  • Leverage academic research to advance technology and maintain state-of-the-art practices.

Requirements

  • Deep understanding of modern algorithms for machine learning and natural language processing.
  • Expert-level coding proficiency in a modern compiled language, particularly Rust.
  • Experience working on multiple platforms including macOS, Windows, Linux, and Android, especially in cross-platform projects.
  • Prior experience with device-side code constraints (optional but helpful).
  • Working knowledge of front-end development practices (optional but helpful).
  • Highly entrepreneurial, energetic, and creative, comfortable in a fast-paced and ambiguous environment.
  • Effective communication skills, surpassing generative AI capabilities.
  • Embodies EAGER values: ethical, adaptable, gritty, empathetic, and remarkable.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with front-end development practices.
  • Familiarity with constraints of writing device-side code.
