About the position

As a Machine Learning Engineer at Target, you will be part of a Data Sciences team focused on creating personalized recommendations for Target.com and the Target App. Your role will involve designing, implementing, and optimizing production machine learning solutions while collaborating with data scientists, engineers, and product managers to meet business needs. You will also be responsible for maintaining a well-tested codebase and participating in code reviews, ensuring best practices in software design are followed.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement production machine learning solutions for personalized recommendations.
  • Optimize existing machine learning models and algorithms for performance and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, engineers, and product managers to understand business requirements.
  • Participate in code reviews and maintain a well-tested codebase with relevant documentation.
  • Understand and manage the end-to-end model lifecycle, including data ingestion, feature extraction, model training, and deployment.

Requirements

  • 4-year degree in Quantitative disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Python programming.
  • Familiarity with ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, XGBoost, and sklearn.
  • Familiarity with SQL and software design on Linux/Mac.
  • Experience with software version control such as git and testing frameworks like PyTest.
  • Understanding of the end-to-end model lifecycle including data processing, model training, and deployment.
  • Excellent communication skills for data storytelling through visualizations.

Nice-to-haves

  • MS in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Physics or equivalent experience.
  • Familiarity with cloud ML services such as Vertex AI, Azure ML, or Sagemaker.
  • Proficiency in Java, PySpark, and/or Scala.
  • Experience in end-to-end Machine Learning application development including data pipelining and API design.
  • Familiarity with containerized technologies like Docker and CI/CD practices.
