About the position

The Trust and Safety team is rapidly expanding and is responsible for developing machine learning models and systems that protect users from negative content. This team plays a crucial role in safeguarding billions of users and publishers globally, utilizing state-of-the-art machine learning technologies to manage the vast amounts of data generated on the platform. The continuous efforts of the Trust and Safety team ensure that TikTok provides an exceptional user experience while promoting a safe environment for creativity and expression. As a Machine Learning Engineer within this team, you will be tasked with designing and developing advanced machine learning solutions that will be deployed directly to TikTok's global platform. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in machine learning and software engineering, and will collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, and business partners to tackle the most pressing safety and integrity challenges at an internet scale. This role is pivotal in enhancing TikTok's trust and safety strategy, ensuring that the platform remains a safe space for all users. In this position, you will lead the development of content understanding models for content moderation, working with cutting-edge techniques such as unimodal and multimodal content classifiers, graph models, representation learning models, and large language models (LLM). You will also collaborate with product teams to define business objectives and improve the overall trust and safety strategy, as well as work with engineering teams to deploy machine learning models and design online model workflows at scale. Additionally, you will partner with data scientists to identify key challenges and propose data-driven strategies to enhance content moderation efforts.

Responsibilities

• Lead and build content understanding models for content moderation.
• Work on state-of-the-art content understanding techniques including unimodal/multimodal content classifiers, graph models, representation learning models, and LLM.
• Collaborate with product teams to define business objectives and improve trust and safety strategy.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to deploy machine learning models, design online model workflow, and implement serving pipeline at scale.
• Collaborate with data scientist team to understand the key challenges and propose data-driven strategies.

Requirements

• BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Operation Research, Applied Mathematics, Physics or similar quantitative fields, with 2+ years of related experience.
• Hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas: machine learning (CV/NLP/Multimodal/Graph/LLM), statistical models and applied mathematical methods.
• Strong coding skills, especially in Python and similar languages.
• Curiosity towards new technologies and entrepreneurship, good communication and teamwork skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in LLM, multimodal modeling, representation learning and/or publications in top AI/ML conferences are a plus.
• Understanding of the business value of content understanding and content moderation.
• Experience in developing online ML system including ranking, retrieval.
