About the position

TikTok is the leading destination for short-form mobile video, with a mission to inspire creativity and bring joy. The Web Ads and Open-loop E-commerce team at TikTok is dedicated to technical excellence and holds a strong advertiser focus. This team collaborates with advertisers across various verticals, including E-commerce, Retail, and Travel, to establish TikTok as an essential growth channel for businesses of all sizes. The team is pivotal in delivering TikTok's Ads revenue and is focused on developing the next-generation web ads solution for the platform. As a Machine Learning Engineer, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the existing delivery system that optimizes for advertisers' true business objectives, such as user value and ROI effectiveness. You will have the opportunity to work with a globally diverse team of talented engineers and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to create meaningful connections between users, advertisers, and TikTok. Your work will involve building highly scalable machine learning systems and state-of-the-art models aimed at improving ad ranking quality and optimizing marketing strategies for advertisers. This includes tasks such as click-through rate prediction, conversion rate prediction, intelligent format selection, and user journey optimization. In this role, you will explore, develop, and experiment with new features to enhance model accuracy while fully understanding the objectives of the ads platform. You will leverage modern machine learning techniques to improve the relevance, quality, and quantity of ads delivered to end-users, collaborating with Product Managers, Designers, and other disciplines to innovate the shopping experience on TikTok.

Responsibilities

  • Build highly scalable machine learning systems and state-of-the-art machine learning models to improve ads ranking quality and optimize advertisers' marketing strategies.
  • Explore, develop and experiment with new features to improve model accuracy.
  • Understand ads platform objectives and leverage modern machine learning to improve ads relevance, quality, and quantity delivered to end-users.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and other disciplines to explore the next generation of shopping experiences on TikTok.

Requirements

  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other relevant majors, with 3+ years of related work experience.
  • Solid programming skills, including but not limited to: Go, C/C++, Python. Familiar with basic data structure and algorithms. Familiar with Linux development environment.
  • Good analytical thinking capability. Have essential knowledge and skills in statistics.
  • Good theoretical grounding in machine and deep learning concepts and techniques (CNN/RNN/LSTM, etc.).
  • Familiar with the architecture and implementation of at least one mainstream machine learning programming framework (TensorFlow/PyTorch/MXNet).

Nice-to-haves

  • Good understanding in one of the following domains: ads bidding & auction, ads quality control, and online advertising systems.
  • Experience in resource management and task scheduling with large-scale distributed software (such as Spark and TensorFlow).
  • Relevant work or research experiences in search and recommendation.
