About the position

At Flatiron Health, we are on a mission to improve lives by learning from the experiences of every person with cancer. We are seeking a Machine Learning Engineer to join our Discovery team, where we are pioneering the use of machine learning (ML) and natural language processing (NLP) to extract clinically relevant information from unstructured medical notes for oncology research. This role is crucial in helping us build next-generation research data products and developing ML models that capture a complete picture of the patient journey. As a Machine Learning Engineer, you will engage with a cross-functional group of stakeholders, including data scientists, product managers, and research oncologists, to guide our product roadmap and contribute to the technical development of our models. You will be involved in model development projects from scoping through to productionization and delivery. Your responsibilities will include interfacing with internal scientific stakeholders to understand their data needs, applying ML and NLP techniques to transform raw clinical data into high-quality research variables, and collaborating with quantitative scientists and oncologists to validate that your models can generate sound scientific insights. In addition, you will work closely with other data scientists to enhance our ML capabilities by developing new ML architectures and collaborating with software engineers to productionize these new variables. This role is ideal for someone who is product-focused and has a strong background in applying ML to solve real-world problems, particularly in the healthcare domain. You will be part of a dynamic team that values collaboration, feedback, and the opportunity to make a significant impact in the field of oncology research.
