About the position

We are looking for a highly motivated Machine Learning Engineer to join the Uber Eats Search and Discovery Team. In this role, you will play a critical part in enhancing the search experience for millions of Uber Eats users worldwide. Your expertise in data analysis, machine learning, and engineering will be essential in driving insights and optimizing search algorithms, ultimately improving user satisfaction and operational efficiency. As a Machine Learning Engineer, you will design, develop, and productionize machine learning (ML) solutions in areas such as Search and Discovery, Generative AI (GenAI), Query Understanding/Ranking, and MOO optimizations. You will be responsible for deploying these models for real-world applications and ensuring they operate effectively in a production environment. Additionally, you will design and analyze experiments using a combination of data analysis and statistical analysis to lead the team to reasonable inferences. Collaboration is key in this role; you will work closely with product and cross-functional teams to brainstorm new solutions and iterate on the product. You will also review code and designs of teammates, providing constructive feedback to foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and productionize machine learning (ML) solutions in Search and Discovery, GenAI, QU/Ranking, and MOO optimizations.
• Productionize and deploy ML models for real-world applications.
• Design and analyze experiments using data analysis/statistical analysis to lead the team to reasonable inferences.
• Review code and designs of teammates, providing constructive feedback.
• Collaborate with Product and cross-functional teams to brainstorm new solutions and iterate on the product.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field.
• Experience with a strong focus on machine learning and optimization.
• Experience with ML packages such as Tensorflow, PyTorch, JAX, and Scikit-Learn.
• Solid understanding of statistical analysis and feature engineering techniques.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects.
• Experience using SQL in a production environment.
• Experience in experimental design and analysis, exploratory data analysis, and statistical analysis.
• Experience with dashboarding and using data visualization tools.
• Experience using statistical methodologies such as sampling, statistical estimates, descriptive statistics, or similar.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in the Search and Recommendations Field.
• Experience in Query Understanding / Ranking or solving customer problems with NLP.
• Experience developing end-to-end GenAI products.
