About the position

The Machine Learning Engineer at RAND will work in a multidisciplinary environment, collaborating closely with researchers and analysts across various domains. This role focuses on developing and maintaining custom applications and data pipelines that utilize generative AI, natural language processing, and large language models (LLMs). The position requires a strong foundation in machine learning, particularly in deep learning algorithms and architectures, as well as experience in training and fine-tuning models.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain custom applications and data pipelines featuring generative AI and natural language processing.
  • Collaborate with researchers and analysts from various domains to implement machine learning solutions.
  • Train and fine-tune machine learning models, particularly LLMs and other foundation models.
  • Build machine learning pipelines that leverage advanced AI techniques.
  • Utilize cloud computing resources for deploying machine learning applications.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of deep learning and generative artificial intelligence.
  • High-level proficiency in Python programming.
  • Experience with TensorFlow and/or PyTorch frameworks.
  • Familiarity with LangChain, LlamaIndex, or similar frameworks.
  • Experience with fine-tuning techniques and retrieval augmented generation.
  • Background in natural language processing algorithms.
  • Cloud computing experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • MA/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or related quantitative field strongly preferred.
