Machine Learning Research Assistant

About the position

The Machine Learning Research Assistant at Talkspace will play a crucial role in supporting mental health research initiatives. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about mental health and eager to contribute to innovative projects in a collaborative environment. The role involves handling sensitive data, labeling therapy transcripts for NLP and ML models, validating machine learning models, and assisting with research publications. The assistant will work closely with the Research team and report to the Research Project Manager.

Responsibilities

• Handle sensitive data with empathy and discretion.
• Label therapy transcripts for natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning (ML) models based on provided rubrics.
• Assist in validating and evaluating trained machine learning models using established metrics and testing procedures.
• Build a knowledge base on key topics for future research and product efforts at Talkspace.
• Assist with authorship of publications when applicable.
• Track citations of Talkspace-partnered peer-reviewed research articles.
• Provide support for additional research efforts, including consenting research participants and conducting assessments.

Requirements

• At least one year of experience in human subjects research or qualitative data analysis.
• Educational background in psychology, neuroscience, or a related discipline.
• Strong interest in mental health research and innovative projects.
• Experience or coursework in natural language processing, machine learning, or related fields preferred.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Nice-to-haves

• Previous research experience, including literature reviews and data collection.
• Familiarity with academic publishing processes.
• Knowledge of research methodologies and statistical analysis techniques.
