About the position

The Machine Learning Scientist position at Genentech focuses on advancing drug discovery through machine learning and computational chemistry. The role involves collaboration with various scientists to implement and deploy machine learning solutions for small-molecule drug discovery, contributing to impactful technologies and research publications.

Responsibilities

  • Drive research on Machine Learning for Drug Discovery.
  • Collaborate with computational and experimental scientists across gRED.
  • Implement machine learning and computational chemistry-based methods for small molecule drug discovery.
  • Deploy and deliver technical solutions at the intersection of computational chemistry and machine learning.
  • Build and scale machine-learning techniques to massive datasets.
  • Aid in the deployment of novel machine-learning algorithms with experimental collaborators.
  • Contribute to and drive publications and present results at scientific conferences.
  • Help make code and workflows open source.

Requirements

  • BS, MS, or PhD degree in physical sciences or quantitative field, or equivalent industry research experience.
  • Record of scientific excellence evidenced by at least one publication in a scientific journal or conference.
  • Fluency in Python and experience with scientific software development for chemical modeling (e.g. RDKit, OpenEye Toolkits).
  • Demonstrated experience with modern Python frameworks for deep learning like PyTorch.
  • Experience working with biochemical or biophysical datasets including graph, sequence, and structure-based data.
  • Public portfolio of projects available on GitHub/GitLab.

Nice-to-haves

  • Good scientific programming skills with knowledge of RDKit or OpenEye toolkits.
  • Familiarity with PyTorch.
