About the position

The Machine Learning Science Intern position at Expedia Group is part of the 2025 Global Summer Internship Program, designed to provide interns with a comprehensive experience in a collaborative and inclusive environment. Interns will engage in meaningful projects that contribute to business-critical initiatives, while also receiving tailored training and support to enhance their skills in machine learning and data science. This role emphasizes the application of technical knowledge to real-world problems in the travel industry, fostering both personal and professional growth.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and prototype new machine learning models with A/B testing.
  • Apply statistical methods to make sound inferences on data and A/B tests.
  • Utilize Natural Language models for Google keyword analysis and multi-objective ranking problems.
  • Communicate complex analytical topics clearly to various partners and senior leadership.
  • Conduct feature engineering and modify existing models to meet business needs.
  • Develop expertise in fraud and risk detection for online transactions.
  • Model complex online travel data to optimize business metrics and improve traveler experience.
  • Frame business problems as data science challenges with actionable tasks.

Requirements

  • Must be available for the full program dates (May 19-July 25, 2025 OR June 23-August 29, 2025).
  • Must be graduating with a master's degree in a technical subject between December 2025 and July 2026.
  • Must be willing to relocate to the job location if outside commuting distance.
  • Must have knowledge of Python and/or Scala, SQL.
  • Must have no more than 2 years of professional experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Theoretical understanding of various machine learning topics like Regression, Naïve Bayes, Deep Learning, etc.
  • Experience with programming and statistical languages like Python, R, SQL/Hive, Java.
  • Understanding of distributed file systems and technologies like Spark and Hadoop.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing, specifically AWS.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with diverse partners.
