About the position

The Zelis Data Intelligence (ZDI) Business Unit is seeking a talented engineer who is fluent in Rust and has experience in Machine Learning (ML) related engineering. The primary focus of this role is to build and maintain software that ingests, parses, processes, and serves significant datasets. This involves utilizing technologies such as SIMD, Apache Arrow, Apache Data Fusion, Polars, and similar tools. Rust plays a crucial role in our ML operations, and the ideal candidate will have experience in the creation, understanding, and deployment of ML models and large language models (LLMs). As stewards of complex healthcare datasets, our mission is to simplify complexity to solve significant problems. The successful candidate will contribute to and be responsible for the development and maintenance of numerous microservices that are integral to the overall system architecture. This role requires a disciplined approach to writing readable and maintainable code, supported by appropriate testing practices. We prioritize candidates with a solid understanding of ML fundamentals and a keen interest in contributing to the development of an ML platform. We have offices in various locations, including Atlanta, Boston, Morristown, Plano, St. Louis, St. Petersburg, and Hyderabad, India. Responsibilities

  • Deeply understand common ML algorithms, the latest in GenAI, and ML engineering best practices.
  • Write easily maintainable, extendable, and understandable code that adheres to software engineering design principles.
  • Optimize code for efficiency, reducing unnecessary CPU and memory overhead and costs wherever possible.
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable and resilient software architecture to serve customer needs.
  • Suggest and make use of open-source software.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in a Software Engineer role.
  • Experience developing and deploying ML and GenAI models.
  • Experience with AWS, Unix, Docker, Snowflake, OpenTelemetry, Airflow.
  • Embrace a DevOps mindset and software engineering best practices (source control, testing, code review).
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • 5+ years backend engineer experience, with experience working on ML applications.
  • Experience building scalable production applications and working with large datasets.
  • Experience with Apache Arrow/Data Fusion/Polars.
