About the position

As a Machine Operator at SPX Technologies, you will play a crucial role in setting up and operating various machines to fabricate metallic parts. This position involves working with conventional, special purpose, and numerical control (NC) machines, contributing to the production of innovative electric heating solutions. You will be part of a diverse team dedicated to making an impact in the HVAC and Detection and Measurement sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Design and/or develop tools, jigs, and fixtures used in production.
  • Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpieces, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on material or workpieces as guides for subsequent machining.
  • Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.
  • Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
  • Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjust machine controls or control media as required.
  • Verify conformance of finished workpieces to specifications.
  • Set up and operate machines on trial runs to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
  • Fit and assemble parts into complete assemblies.
  • Verify dimensions and alignment of assemblies.
  • Install machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and test operation of units to ensure functionality and performance.
  • Operate welding equipment to cut or weld parts.
  • Develop specifications from general descriptions and draw sketches of parts or products to be fabricated.
  • Confer with engineers, production personnel, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.

Requirements

  • One to three months related experience and/or training.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Nice-to-haves

  • Completion of machinist courses at an accredited technical school, including passing a written test.
