About the position

The Machine Operator at Bollinger Mississippi Shipbuilding LLC is responsible for setting up and operating various metal fabrication machines to produce metal components according to blueprints and specifications. This role involves interpreting engineering documents, selecting and securing machine tools, and ensuring the quality of the fabricated items.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate metal fabrication machines such as brakes, rolls, shears, saws, and presses.
  • Fabricate items including angles, brackets, eye beams, curved plates, and foundations.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering specifications, and shop orders to determine machine setup and production methods.
  • Select, position, and secure dies, blades, cutters, and fixtures onto machines using various tools.
  • Adjust controls to set and regulate machining factors.
  • Use instruments to locate and mark bending or cutting lines on work pieces.
  • Position work pieces using stops, guides, layout marks, and hoists.
  • Start machines and observe operations to make necessary adjustments.
  • Inspect work for compliance with blueprints and specifications.

Requirements

  • Prior experience as a machinist is helpful.
  • Experience as a machine operator in a shipbuilding or marine fabrication environment is preferred.
