About the position

We are seeking dedicated Seamer Operators for both 1st and 2nd shifts (6am - 2:30pm & 2pm - 10:30pm) to join our team at Brook & Whittle Ltd. As a Seamer/Machine Operator, you will play a crucial role in the operation of seaming machines, ensuring that production runs smoothly and efficiently according to the Finishing Schedule posted at the machine. Your primary responsibilities will include running seaming machines with the appropriate materials, conducting inspections based on shipping requirements, and operating a Rotoflex packing machine. You will also assist in finishing tasks when production needs in seaming are met, directing floaters to maximize productivity and communicating effectively with other shift personnel regarding the status of machines and materials. In this role, you will monitor the quality of the products while running the machines, work with flammable materials, and refer to job packets for instructions on finishing, splicing, labeling, and packing. It is essential to communicate any issues to upstream and downstream operations and report any machine or equipment breakdowns to your supervisor and maintenance personnel. You will be expected to work overtime as needed and cover for other operators during their vacations. Proficiency in using measuring devices such as calipers and scales is required, along with a strong understanding of all policies, procedures, and safety regulations associated with the Finishing Department. Additionally, you will consult with the department manager and Quality Assurance regarding any quality-related defects and assist in investigating root causes and corrective actions for departmental needs. You will also be responsible for maintaining accurate production logs, ensuring that the machine is clean and ready for the next shift, and identifying opportunities for process improvements and increased productivity. This position requires a proactive approach, as you will be expected to troubleshoot equipment and relocate rolls to appropriate skids while keeping products separated.

Responsibilities

  • Run seaming machines with material based on the Finishing Schedule posted at the machine.
  • Run inspection machine as needed based on shipping requirements.
  • Run a Rotoflex, packing, and assist in finishing by running equipment when production needs in seaming are met.
  • Direct floater to maximize productivity.
  • Communicate with other shift personnel regarding the status of machines and materials.
  • Monitor quality while running the machine.
  • Work with flammable materials.
  • Refer to job packet for finishing, splicing, labeling, and packing instructions.
  • Communicate issues to upstream & downstream operations.
  • Report machine & equipment breakdown to supervisor & maintenance personnel.
  • Work overtime as needed.
  • Cover for other operators while on vacation.
  • Utilize different measuring devices such as calipers & scales.
  • Understand and support all policies, procedures, instructions, rules, and regulations associated with the Finishing Department.
  • Consult with department manager and Quality Assurance regarding any quality-related defects.
  • Assist in investigating root cause analysis & corrective actions for departmental needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Troubleshoot equipment.
  • Relocate rolls to appropriate skids keeping products separated.
  • Ensure complete & accurate information on the production logs.
  • Inform operator on the next shift about the status of the day's schedule and material.
  • Ensure machine is clean & ready before departing.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Ability to follow & comprehend oral, written, and/or visual instructions.
  • Capable of analyzing and exercising judgment in solving operational problems.
  • Ability to multitask and collaborate effectively.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on knowledge of processes is desired.
  • Ability to help troubleshoot equipment and provide feedback to department supervisor and maintenance personnel.
  • Must take initiative, be resourceful, and willing to accept responsibility and accountability.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without restriction.
