About the position

The Machine Operator-Die Cast is responsible for setting up, adjusting, and operating die cast machines to produce castings according to specifications. This role emphasizes adherence to safety regulations, maintaining quality throughout the production process, and accurately completing necessary paperwork.

Responsibilities

  • Follow drawings and job orders to set up machines properly
  • Mount, align, and secure dies; check ejector pins for proper action
  • Change inserts and regulate cooling devices as required
  • Charge furnace with proper alloy and regulate metal temperature
  • Spray die cavity with mold release when needed
  • Make trial shots, adjust settings, and maintain quality throughout the production run
  • Communicate with Secondary operations to ensure consistent quality
  • Measure parts using instruments such as fixed gauges, scales, and calipers
  • Complete inspection sheets and record production data accurately
  • Observe all safety rules and regulations
  • Perform 5S tasks in the work area and complete area checklist
  • Report unsafe acts and conditions to the lead operator or supervisor
  • Assist in training new employees
  • Perform routine machine maintenance as needed
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations
  • Ability to work with units of weight and length measurement
  • Ability to communicate through an interpreter, if necessary
  • Basic written communication skills
  • Skilled use of hands for grasping and manipulating objects
  • Must be able to extend arms for placing and removing products in the workstation
  • Ability to stand for 8 hours or more
  • Ability to lift 50lbs or more
  • Vision of 20/30 or better, with or without corrective glasses
  • Ability to work in hot, loud, and noisy environments
  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including a uniform, steel-toed shoes, gloves, earplugs, safety glasses, and face mask

Nice-to-haves

  • One to three months of machine tool operating experience
  • Ability to read and write in English
