About the position

The Machine Programmer III position at Blue Origin involves programming and operating CNC production equipment to produce machined parts and components. This role is critical in supporting the company's mission of enabling safe and cost-effective space exploration. The ideal candidate will leverage their technical expertise and leadership skills to ensure high-quality manufacturing processes while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and collaboration within a diverse team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop machining strategy to produce machined hardware from design data.
  • Create manufacturing plans for Mills, Lathes, Multi Axis Mills, and Multi Axis Lathes.
  • Develop and modify CNC programs based on manufacturing sketches and blueprints.
  • Design custom tools and fixtures as needed for production.
  • Communicate effectively with designers and machinists to provide design for manufacture feedback.
  • Support make-buy decisions and provide machine time estimates.
  • Implement process improvements for machining and administrative processes.
  • Maintain configuration control on files and job records.
  • Safely operate machinery within an industrial environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum 15 years of hands-on manufacturing experience.
  • Minimum 10 years in CNC programming with NX/UG or MasterCam.
  • Excellent blueprint reading skills including GD&T per ASME Y14.5M-1994 standard.
  • Experience in tools fixture design and set-up sheet creation.
  • Ability to determine initial feeds and speeds and select cutters.
  • 5 years of machining experience with hardened metals.
  • Design for manufacture experience.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience with nickel-based alloys and aluminum.
  • Fluency in using precision hand tools and familiarity with personal computers.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize work to meet project deadlines.
  • Ability to build trust and maintain professional relationships.

Nice-to-haves

  • NX experience preferred.
  • Experience with nickel-based alloys, copper, and titanium.
  • Experience with Vericut or other program verification software.
  • Ability to support off shifts.
  • Experience operating heavy lifting equipment such as cranes and forklifts.
  • CMM programming/operation experience.
