About The Position

The Machine Tool Rebuilder at Brookhaven National Laboratory is responsible for rebuilding machine tools to meet new performance standards and tolerances. This role requires proficiency in machine tool alignment, hand and machine scraping, and the fitting of bearings, shafts, and gears. The position may also involve directing and coordinating the work of others, as well as performing inspection, maintenance, and repair duties as necessary.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED, or higher.
• Valid NYS driver's license or ability to secure one.
• Must meet the medical requirements of the Job Assessment Form.
• Must have a telephone and provide the number for callout and contact purposes.
• Possess written and verbal communication skills.
• Capable of following written instruction procedures, work orders, and similar documents.
• Writing skills to complete work orders and other required documents.
• Ability to communicate verbally with customers, fellow workers, and supervisors.
• Verifiable acceptable leave record in prior employment.
• Able to complete all requirements of the Job Training Assessment.

Responsibilities

• Rebuilds machine tools to new machine performance and tolerances.
• Proficient in machine tool alignment, hand and machine scraping, and fitting of bearings, shafts, and gears.
• Fabricates machine parts, special tools, and equipment as required.
• May direct and coordinate the work of others and perform inspection, maintenance, and repair duties.
