About the position

At The Cincinnati Insurance Companies, we put people first and apply the Golden Rule to our daily operations. We are looking for extraordinary individuals to join our talented team in the Machinery and Equipment Specialties department. This position involves providing machinery and equipment boiler inspections within the Des Moines territory. The role can be filled by either a trainee or an experienced field engineer, and positions serving territories away from our headquarters in Fairfield, Ohio are fully remote. The starting pay for this position ranges from $63,000 to $105,000 annually, depending on the applicant's education, experience, location, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Eligible associates may also receive an annual cash bonus and stock incentives based on company and individual performance. As a field engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining jurisdictional boiler and pressure vessel certificate inspections, managing your territory efficiently, educating agents on marketing machinery and equipment to their clients, and serving as a professional resource to our insurance agents. You will also provide a high level of claims service to our local independent insurance agents. This role requires good time management skills, solid interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to react professionally under stressful situations to resolve issues successfully. You will need to work independently without close supervision and interact effectively with different departments within the company. Additionally, you will be expected to prepare meaningful and precise reports.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain territory's jurisdictional boiler and pressure vessel certificate inspections.
  • Efficiently and effectively manage the territory for which you are responsible.
  • Educate agents on how to market machinery and equipment to their clients.
  • Serve as a professional resource to our insurance agents as they retain business and increase the value of their marketing efforts.
  • Provide high level of claims service to our local independent insurance agents.

Requirements

  • For trainees: an engineering or technically-based bachelor's degree or qualifying boiler and pressure vessel work experience.
  • For trainees: strong customer service skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • For trainees: strong interpersonal skills and excellent problem-solving, negotiation, organizational, and prioritization skills.
  • For trainees: strong proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and related software.
  • For trainees: a willingness to travel regularly within the territory to meet job demands and a valid driver's license.
  • For experienced engineers: machinery and equipment experience within a property and casualty insurance company (preferred).
  • For experienced engineers: strong knowledge of machinery and equipment, equipment breakdown coverages, corresponding business lines, regulations, and consensus standards (preferred).
  • For experienced engineers: a bachelor's degree applicable to the position responsibilities or related experience and training.
  • For experienced engineers: a national board commission or qualifications to promptly acquire it.
  • For experienced engineers: strong consultative, organizational, and presentation skills and a demonstrated pursuit of continuing education.
