About the position

The Machining Manufacturing Engineer at Northrop Grumman will support the manufacturing and testing of marine propulsion and power generation systems. This role involves developing and improving manufacturing processes for high-value gearing and steam turbine assemblies, as well as machined components and welded fabrications. The engineer will work closely with a team of assembly mechanics, machinists, welders, and engineers to enhance production efficiency and safety.

Responsibilities

• Develop new manufacturing processes and improve existing ones.
• Create required tooling and fixtures for manufacturing.
• Adapt machine or equipment design to production conditions.
• Evaluate existing manufacturing processes to reduce costs and improve sustainability.
• Develop efficient process flows and sequences of operations.
• Manage bills of materials and create detailed work instructions and process procedures.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and implement new capital equipment.
• Provide technical support to test facility operations as necessary.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with 5 years of relevant work experience; or a master's degree with 3 years; or a PhD with 1 year of relevant work experience.
• Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
• Strong experience with machining and machine shops.
• Experience in mechanical assembly processes, welding, and machining.
• Experience in technical writing.
• Ability to obtain Secret Clearance.
• U.S. Citizenship required.

Nice-to-haves

• Hands-on experience machining and troubleshooting machines.
• Experience measuring and analyzing precision parts.
• Capable of programming CNC lathes, mills, and/or grinders.
• Experience with selecting and managing Capital Equipment (CapEX) projects.
