About the position

The Machinist 1 position at Vigor involves performing machining tasks with a focus on safety, productivity, and quality. The role requires a journeyman level of expertise in operating various manual and CNC machines, as well as the ability to perform routine maintenance and inspections. The machinist will work both independently and as part of a team, ensuring that all work meets the required tolerances and standards while maintaining a clean and safe work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Achieve and maintain productivity standards while following all safety guidelines.
  • Perform routine maintenance, including lubrication and cleaning of machines.
  • Understand and apply GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) to take critical measurements and reverse engineer parts.
  • Operate manual lathes, manual mills, horizontal boring lathes, CNC mills, and CNC lathes at a journeyman level.
  • Establish and adjust speeds, feeds, and depths of cut to maximize throughput.
  • Independently inspect parts using standard shop measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and height gauges.
  • Utilize rigging and overhead crane operation for lifting heavy objects and performing load calculations.
  • Maintain a clean work area and ensure all paperwork is completed before considering a job finished.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in machining required.
  • Journeyman level knowledge of manual and CNC machining processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong understanding of shop measuring equipment and inspection techniques.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 60 lbs and perform physical tasks as required.
