About the position

As an Applications Engineer at Productivity, Inc., you will play a crucial role in providing technical support and expertise to our manufacturing customers. This position is designed for a talented manufacturing professional who is passionate about CNC machine tools and is eager to assist customers through various means such as process assistance, training, and turnkey projects. You will also be instrumental in supporting our machine tool sales representatives with knowledgeable solution-selling assistance. Your contributions will directly impact our customers' productivity and satisfaction, making this a vital role within our organization. In this position, you will be responsible for providing technical assistance to customers, which includes programming, tooling, fixturing, and facilitating communication or data exchange. You will support the Machine Tool sales team by engaging in solution selling, which involves conducting time studies, creating process plans, and performing machine demonstrations. Your expertise will be essential in programming and setting up CNC lathes, CNC vertical or horizontal mills, and Swiss-style lathes. You will also be tasked with making accurate cost estimates, developing engineering processes, and interpreting plans and specifications. Additionally, you will prepare various technical materials such as time studies, tool lists, tooling and workholding layouts, process plans, layout sketches, presentation materials, and proposals. Conducting on-site training for operators, as well as basic and advanced programming of CNC machining centers, lathes, grinders, and multi-tasking machines, will also be part of your responsibilities. You will prepare for and participate in trade and promotional shows, which includes writing programs, ordering tooling and materials, setting up jobs, and demonstrating products while answering questions. Maintaining an in-depth technical knowledge of the product lines represented by the company is essential, along with performing other miscellaneous duties as required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance to customers regarding programming, tooling, fixturing, and communication or data exchange.
  • Support the Machine Tool sales team with solution selling assistance, including time studies, process plans, and machine demonstrations.
  • Program and set up CNC lathes, CNC vertical or horizontal mills, and Swiss-style lathes.
  • Make accurate cost estimates, develop engineering processes, and interpret plans and specifications.
  • Prepare technical materials such as time studies, tool lists, tooling and workholding layouts, process plans, layout sketches, presentation materials, and proposals.
  • Conduct on-site training for operators and provide basic/advanced programming of CNC machining centers, lathes, grinders, and multi-tasking machines.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years CNC programming, set-up, and operation of CNC machines.
  • Experience in multi-axis machining, including Swiss style machining, multi-tasking lathes, and 5-axis milling.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with customers, operators, machinists, technical support, and management.
  • Ability to read and write G and M code programs manually.
  • Knowledge of CAD/CAM programming.
  • Knowledge of PLC Ladder logic programming is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills for complex problems.
  • Knowledge in tooling for selecting and applying appropriate tool engagements along with proper speeds and feeds from a print to part.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented work environment.
  • Ability to collaborate and assist team members.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of PLC Ladder logic programming.
