About the position

The Machinist I position at Peerless Pump involves performing complete setup and operations for various types of manual machines, including lathes, mills, drills, and grinders. The role is essential in ensuring the production of high-quality components while adhering to safety and quality standards. The Machinist I will work closely with the Production Supervisor and other team members to maintain efficient operations and contribute to the company's mission of manufacturing sustainable pumps.

Responsibilities

  • Read blueprints, drawings, specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces.
  • Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, and materials on machines.
  • Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut.
  • Observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust controls as required.
  • Verify conformance of finished work pieces to prints and specifications and perform secondary operations such as deburring and drilling.
  • Provide training and instruction to other employees as required.
  • Perform manual and electronic record keeping and information retrieval functions.
  • Plan sequence of operations and determine the most efficient speeds, feeds, depths of cuts, and tooling required.
  • Inspect parts for conformance to prints and specifications.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED/HSE/HiSET, or equivalent required.
  • 1-3 years of manual machining experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and setup sheets.
  • Intermediate knowledge of blueprint reading and manufacturing principles.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and perform physical tasks for at least 8 hours a day.
  • Basic computer skills in SAP and Microsoft Office.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience using cranes, hoists, screw jacks, and hydraulic jacks.
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic, organizational skills, and communication skills.
