About the position

The position involves operating manual and CNC (Computer Numerical Controlled) mills and lathes to fabricate and build parts for customer and shop needs. The role requires knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures, with a focus on safety and compliance with company policies.

Responsibilities

  • Run and operate manual and CNC mills and lathes to fabricate parts.
  • Perform tasks in a safe and responsible manner, complying with company policies.
  • Determine the uses of personal protective equipment (PPE) and identify safety equipment and procedures.
  • Use the MRP Network to clock in and out of jobs upon set-up and completion.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds frequently as part of job duties.
  • Maintain and fill out quality sheets to verify part tolerances.
  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using mathematics and instruments like micrometers and dial calipers.
  • Machine parts to specifications using tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
  • Diagnose machine malfunctions and determine the need for adjustments or repairs.
  • Align and secure work-holding fixtures, cutting tools, and materials onto machines.
  • Study sample parts, blueprints, and engineering information to determine fabrication methods and product dimensions.
  • Conduct job hazard analysis for conventional mills and lathes and perform preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Calculate tool feed and speeds, and change tools and tool holders on milling machines.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
  • Proficient in using the MRP Network for job tracking.
  • Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of various units of measure.
  • Understanding of Excel programs for data management.
  • Ability to follow detailed written or oral instructions and solve problems in standardized situations.
  • Ability to work independently without immediate supervision.
  • Attention to detail and ability to notice what work needs to be done.
